Marvel made six hundred and fifty million dollars in a single weekend last year. From the first Iron Man movie to today, Marvel has made an estimated $17,503,126,841 according to The Numbers, thus making Marvel the most profitable movie franchise in history. Where there are movies, there surely will be movie tie-in games to follow as we’ve seen with: Spider-Man, Fantastic Four, The Chronicles Of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay, Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade, GoldenEye 007, The Lion King, and so on.

It was announced a few short days ago that there will be a further extension of the Marvel canon or at least the ever-growing list of media to follow. This time it’s a video game to be developed by a new studio called Second Dinner, a company made up of former Activision-Blizzard employees with previous work on Hearthstone, Diablo, StarCraft, Call of Duty, World of WarCraft, Oni, and Halo. The Second Dinner team has the pedigree behind it, as stated by their minority investor NetEase, “The Second Dinner team has a strong track record of delivering quality games. With the resources and creative freedom they now have, we look forward to what they will come up with next,”.
Jay Ong, EVP and Head of Marvel Games at Marvel Entertainment said, “I’ve worked with Hamilton and Ben for years and they are exactly who we want making Marvel games,”, showing there is support as well as trust behind the team going ahead with their coming Marvel project. Ong optimally stated further, “They and the team they’ve assembled at Second Dinner have made some of the greatest games in history. And now, working with the Marvel Games team and playing in the Marvel Universe… It’s going to be Amazing! Or maybe Spectacular! Or Incredible! Or Mighty! Or quite possibly all of the above!”.
With nothing but speculation to be made at this point, one can not say if the game will be great or not. With the history of the team, there is no speculation one could further make of the type of game Second Dinner is prototyping right now. All we do know is NetEase’s minority investment of $30 million is heading to the Second Dinner team, with speculation this could be apart of the NetEase and Marvel deal made last year to produce a Chinese Superhero.
However, there is one thing we do know right now. The Second Dinner team is currently seeking to hire an in-house client engineer and technical artist for the project, with Chief Creative Officer, Ben Brode stating, “The team is really excited to get some new perspectives on the game and some awesome folks to help design and build it.” If this seems like your calling then inquire on their careers page.
