Isabelle Joins Super Smash Bros. and New Game Teased

During the Nintendo Direct presentation on September 13th, another Super Smash Bros. Ultimate newcomer was announced – Isabelle from Animal Crossing!

The trailer opens with Isabelle working in her office until postman Pete delivers her a surprise invitational letter to Smash Bros. From there, we see her using a variety of moves such as using a bucket of water to throw on opponents, and flailing pom pom’s. She also utilizes items inspired by activities in the Animal Crossing games, such as a fishing rod.

Isabelle is the fifth unique newcomer for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate alongside Inkling, Ridley, Simon Belmont, and King K. Rool. She was first introduced in the 2012 3DS title Animal Crossing: New Leaf, and acts as a secretary for the town mayor (the player character). Since her introduction, she’s effectively become the face of the series garnering huge popularity worldwide, especially in Japan.

From there, we get a comedic tease of the pesky debt collector Tom Nook watching a video on his computer before the power cuts out. He turns on a desk lamp and faces the viewers at home to reveal that Isabelle has now left to take part in Smash while he’s staying behind to make sure that new villagers will have a home to come to. As his dialogue ends, the screen fades to white revealing the Animal Crossing logo with a 2019 release window underneath.

No current information is available for Animal Crossing 2019, however, it can be assumed that it’s a follow-up to the last mainline entry – Animal Crossing: New Leaf – as the last six years have only consisted of spin-offs for the franchise.

With titles such as the currently un-named Pokémon game, Animal Crossing and Luigi’s Mansion 3 coming to Switch next year Nintendo is keeping the momentum of continuous releases going into the foreseeable future.

What are you more excited for? Isabelle joining Super Smash Bros. Ultimate or a new Animal Crossing title? Or do neither spark your interest? Let us know your thoughts down below.
