Datamining Reveals Rejected PS Classic Games

The PS Classic isn’t being received as well as one would think. With titles like Final Fantasy VII and Twisted Metal, things should be promising, right? What the PS Classic delivered was a collection of games that are outweighed by their underwhelming titles rather than the heavy hitters. Unfortunately, we may have a look at what could have been thanks to some data-mining.

A discovered code dump shows differences between the core PCSX PlayStation emulator and a custom version of that emulator, seemingly the one being used in the micro-console. Titles that were seemingly tested on the PS Classic but not included were as follows:

Chocobo’s Mysterious Dungeon
Colin McRae Rally
Crash Bandicoot
Crash 2
Toy Story 2
Driver
Ehrgeiz
Fighting Force
Gran Turismo
GTA 2
Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone
Kagero
Klonoa
Kula World
Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver
Medal of Honor
MediEvil
Mega Man Legends
Mr. Driller G
Paca Paca Passion
PaRappa the Rapper
Parasite Eve
RayStorm
Ridge Racer
Silent Hill
Spec Ops: Stealth Patrol
Street Fighter Alpha 3
Street Fighter EX Plus Alpha
Suikoden
Tomb Raider
Tomb Raider 2
Tomba
Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2
Vagrant Story
Wild Arms 2
Xevious 3D/G+

Let’s be honest, adding a few of these would have made a huge difference. I, for one, am foaming at the mouth imagining playing through Toy Story 2 again. Some reports have stated that the games are still present on the console, although that’s far from likely. What’s more likely is that some, if not all of these games were tested before licenses were agreed for the titles that did make it to the release build, and subsequently became impossible to include.

Sales and reviews of the PS Classic have been lackluster, but hey, if you weren’t already disappointed, just imagine these games being included. What should have been left off the official list in favor of one of these titles? Let us know in the comments.
